Drive Time

I'm enjoying my journeys in the mixed media world, and I had fun creating this layout:

I started with a collage of scrap papers, which I covered with gesso {loving the reduction of my paper scraps stash!!}

Then, in response the Candy Land challenge at LESSology, I sought inspiration from this packaging:

I inked up the background with orange to match the logo, and used browns and creams and spotty elements.  I used the actual packaging on my layout, as a photo mat, and cut out one of the little spotted dogs.

I also used some of the tabs from the packaging:

I'm also submitting my layout at Creative Artiste for the Anything Goes / Use Chipboard challenge.  Here's a detailed shot of the chipboard, which I cut from a larger panel, and altered with gesso:

(You can also see the adorable spotted dog, which I couldn't resist fussy-cutting and adding as an embellishment.)

And... this week at Simon Says Wednesday, Anything Goes ~ so I'm sharing there too.

Materials
Ranger Dylusions - Squeezed Orange ink spray
Creative Embellishments Circle Lattice Panel chipboard
May Arts 3/8" brown/white spots grosgrain ribbon
3/8" argyle grosgrain ribbon
Dymo tape
Kraft washi tape

Believe in yourself

This is my creation for Week 4 of Lulu Art's Colour Me Positive art journalling challenge.

First, the prompt:

The background colour and texture was inspired by the mood board at Berry 71 Bleu this month:

I started with a collage background:

I covered it with gesso, then with acrylic paint.  I didn't like how 'solid' it looked, so I gave it another coat of gesso, then sprayed with dye ink... then decorated.   To finish up, I added a light spray of gold... and I was finally happy with it. This is how it finished up:

Some detailed shots ~

Stencillling with texture paste and Twinkling H2Os:

45 - Make Today Awesome

Week 3 at Colour Me Positive, and this is the prompt:

This is my creation...

... not an art journal page, but a layout this week.  I created a collage base with lots of old patterned papers.  I experimented with Liquitex gel medium for both the adhesive and the primer.  That seemed to work well but then I tried a Dylusions spray ink on top, and it didn't look right.  Those two media don't play nice together!  The ink was patchy and looked more red than pink.

When the ink finally dried, I covered it all up with white gesso with the aim of starting over...which of course reactivated the ink.  It created a beautiful smooth coverage over everything, like a super creamy acrylic paint, and the gesso diluted the colour too.  Not the result I expected, but I do like it!  And it's always good to discover new things

The cupcake is cut from a birthday card, and I raided my stash for the alphas and other embellishments.

Also joining in at Dylusions Facebook Challenge this month, where the criteria is PINK, LIME GREEN and NUMBERS.

Materials
Ranger Dylusions - Bubblegum Pink ink spray
Arctic Frog Alphabet Avenue - Alphabet Garden number stickers
Provocraft Alphabitties letter stickers

I will fly

This is my creation for Week 2 of the Colour Me Positive art journalling challenge:

The prompt is Be Brave, with the additional criteria of a silhouette:

For my project I quoted lyrics from Touch the Sky, from the 2012 Disney movie Brave.

I'm also sharing my page at Mixed Media Monthly:

I created the 'cloudy' background by applying paint with a make up sponge directly onto the cardstock.  No gesso, no other prep - I just jumped in and squished the paint around.  Pretty brave, for me!  I really like the result.  When it was dry, I added the bird using a stencil and black sharpie pen.

The flowers and rhinestones are from my scrapbooking stash, and the words are printed with Dymo tape.

Simon Says Monday has a STENCILLING theme this week too!

Materials
Bazzill Basics cardstock
Kaisercraft Dusty Pink acrylic paint
Kaisercraft Spearmint acrylic paint
Kaisercraft Rhinestones - Black gems
Dove folkart stencil
